CELTIC TULIP
CELTIC KNOT WORK APPLIQUE
TURN IN AT THE MARCH MEETING
You will need:
Choose a green or blue fabric for your background. Cut your background into a 12.5 x 12.5 inch square. Fold it in half both directions and make a crease in your fabric. This will help you center the pattern later.
1/4 inch bias tape. You may make your own or buy it already made. If you want to do this the easy way, you may even buy the Clover iron-on bias tape. You will need 56" to make this pattern. You may use any color bias tape you want. Since this is a garden theme and the pattern is of a flower, we want to allow you to stray from the traditional black bias tape. Be as creative as you want.
Applique methods:
Apply the bias to the background fabric using any applique method you prefer. You can apply it directly to the background fabric. Leslie also demonstrated how to use a teflon pressing sheet or parchment paper first to make the design. Once the design is cooled, pick it up and place it on your background fabric.
Once the design is on the background fabric, hand or machine sew it in place.
Getting Supplies: If you choose not to make your own bias tape, you can buy locally at the following stores, as supplies last. These are the iron-on kind:
Lady Bug Hill Quilts - white by the yard
Ruth's Stitchery - red and black
Hancock's - black
Nana's Quilt Cottage - can order by request
Enjoy! Happy sewing!
