OPPORTUNITY QUILT

Every year guild members make a quilt to be raffled off at the Holiday Party.  The quilt is displayed at local quilt shops and at various venues around town and around the area where tickets are sold.  In addition to these sales venues, we encourage each of our members to sell a packet of ten tickets.  The proceeds from this raffle are used to fund our outstanding programs by bringing in nationally acclaimed speakers and teachers.

QUILTING BEES

Many members enjoy the camaraderie of a quilting bee.  Quilting bees are smaller groups that get together regularly to quilt and socialize.  They are usually formed because of geography or a shared interest and often meet at a bee member's house.

Piecing Partners members belong to a number of active quilting bees.  If you'd like to start a bee, please click
here to contact the Bee Keeper for assistance.

CHARITY QUILTS

The Charity Quilts Committee is one of the most active in the guild.  Each year guild members make small quilts and other items to be donated to charitable organizations in Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas.  The Committee often puts together very simple kits for members to pick up, make and return at the next meeting.

There are a number of work days throughout the year where members can get together to work on charity items.  The quilts and other items made individually by members are brought to regular meetings and dropped off at the Charity Quilts table for distribution around the region.

In 2007, Piecing Partners Quilt Guild received the first ever "Community Partners-You Make A Difference" award from the Department of Human Services for our decades of service to the community through the Charity Quilts program.

Silent Auction & Boutique

Notice our new committee name? Since we don’t know whether the  “Rockledge” event will continue in the future, we have chosen the new name “Silent Auction & Boutique” which better describes the exciting potential and possibilities for this committee.

The purposes of the SA&B committee are twofold:

          1. To raise money for the charity quilts, program guest speakers, and general operating funds of PPQG, and

          2. To get as many members of the guild involved as possible.

With those goals in mind, we want to thank everyone for the huge success of 2009. PPQG members are so generous! Approximately 180 people donated silent auction quilts, cloth, trims, UFOs, completed items, their time by selling items or serving as white glove ladies, and also bought things at the auction and boutique. The silent auction and boutique together brought in a net income of $4,305.50 for PPQG.

Donation of items for the Silent Auction and Boutique are more than welcome at all of the regular guild meetings. If you need help getting items to us, Marie will be happy to pick up donations.

This year (2010) we are planning monthly workshops to make specific boutique items and to make up kits to give out at PPQG for members to work on at home. High Country Quilts has graciously agreed to let us use their classroom space for these workshops, which are scheduled for the first Tuesday, 10 AM – 2 PM, January through August.

January 5th workshop we will make sailor totes and vests.

February 2nd: Baby sets – burp cloths and flannel blankets.

We hope you will plan to come to the workshops. All you have to bring is your sewing machine and thread – the rest of the supplies will be furnished.

Would you like to teach us how to make something for the boutique? Do you have skill at making Bow Tucks purses and can help others make them?  Please contact Marie Blowers, 593-9285, so she can get you on the schedule and get the supplies needed.  SA&B Committee: Marie Blowers, Carol Hadden, & Sharon Signorelli
