HISTORY
Formed in the fall of 1983, Piecing Partners Quilt Guild is a vibrant, active guild with over 250 members. The goal of the guild is to promote and exchange ideas on quilts and quilting in our community. Great monthly educational programs in the form of guest speakers or other events draw numerous guests to meetings. Workshops are regularly presented in conjunction with programs and they often have waiting lists. There are lots of other activities that our members enjoy such as road trips, charity work, quilting bees, block of the month, annual quilt challenge, door prizes, monthly drawings and a silent auction.

TIPS AND TECHNIQUES ("ASK GUILDA")
We started a simple information column in the newsletter this past summer called "Ask Guilda." We will be further developing the "Ask Guilda" idea into a helpful tips, techniques and informational section based on member input.
So, please let us know what you're interested in, what you'd like to learn more about, specific techniques you may puzzled by, pretty much anything you may want to know about quilting or the guild.
Simply click here to send an email to the webmaster who will then go to work on getting you an answer!

ANNUAL QUILT CHALLENGE
Each year the guild members are invited to participate in making a challenge quilt. The Challenge Committee puts together rules for the challenge and publishes them in the spring. Members then have about six months to design and make their quilt to unveil at the guild meeting in October. The quilts are often displayed at local quilt shops for a month and participants have the option to include their quilt in the displays.
The 2008 Challenge involves selecting a block, having it appear at least twice in two different sizes in the piece, including fabric manipulation as part of the design of the quilt and adding embellishment to the piece. For a complete set of 2008 rules, see the February newsletter.
The 2007 Challenge theme was Songs From Movies. Participants were asked to interpret a song from a movie and were required to use two fabrics with musical notes dancing across them (black on white and white on black). The Challenge quilts were revealed at the October meeting. Click here to see photos of the very creative entries!
Also in 2007, Piecing Partners Quilt Guild was informed that the group of 2006 "Loco Motion" Challenge entries submitted to the Great American Guild Challenge had not only been juried into the American Quilters Society (AQS) Nashville show, but had also won a beautiful yellow Third Place ribbon!

BLOCK OF THE MONTH
Patterns for the Block of the Month are available in the newsletter and at general meetings. The pattern will specify construction directions, color and when the block is due. There will be a drawing for the blocks submitted at the meeting during which they are due.
If you need the current Block of the Month, click here and scroll to the correct page in the newsletter. If you need blocks from prior months, contact the Block of the Month committee chair.

OPPORTUNITY QUILT
Every year guild members make a quilt to be raffled off at the Holiday Party. The quilt is displayed at local quilt shops and at various venues around town and around the area where tickets are sold. In addition to these sales venues, we encourage each of our members to sell a packet of ten tickets. The proceeds from this raffle are used to fund our outstanding programs by bringing in nationally acclaimed speakers and teachers.

CHARITY QUILTS
The Charity Quilts Committee is one of the most active in the guild. Each year guild members make small quilts and other items to be dontated to charitable organizations in Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas. The Committee often puts together very simple kits for members to pick up, make and return at the next meeting.
There are a number of work days throughout the year where members can get together to work on charity items. The quilts and other items made individually by members are brought to regular meetings and dropped off at the Charity Quilts table for distribution around the region.
In 2007, Piecing Partners Quilt Guild recieved the first ever "Community Partners-You Make A Difference" award from the Department of Human Services for our decades of service to the community through the Charity Quilts program.

ROCK LEDGE SILENT AUCTION
This activity is held annually in September during the Holly Berry show at Rock Ledge Ranch off 30th street in the Garden of the Gods. Guild members provide quilts for auction to the public. As this fundraiser pays for the following year's programs, we ask members to support the auction by providing a quilted piece for auction and/or by participating in the auction set up, take down or working the auction.

QUILTING BEES
Many members enjoy the camaraderie of a quilting bee. Quilting bees are smaller groups that get together regularly to quilt and socialize. They are usually formed because of geography or a shared interest and often meet at a bee member's house.
Piecing Partners members belong to a number of active quilting bees. If you'd like to start a bee, please click here to contact the Bee Keeper for assistance.

BOARD/COMMITTEES
The 2008 Board is listed on the front of the newsletter. We are currently looking for a few good quilters to fill some open Committee spots. Contact President, Jane Cullyford, at 347-0414 to volunteer.
